The Archive Opens — Welcome

The doors of the Archive are open at last. What lies before you is the first public record of Occult Facilities — a living chronicle of the secret history beneath the Second World War, and the clandestine powers that shaped it from the shadows.

Within these pages you will find the Compendium of those who walked the hidden paths: the operatives and the scholars whose names were struck from every official ledger, and the long, unspoken war fought beneath the one the history books remember.

This is only the beginning. The Archive will grow as new records surface and new chapters of the occult war are written. Welcome, reader. Read deeply — and know the truth.

Dr. Alina Halloway

Lead Researcher — Affiliation Classified

Dr. Alina Halloway

"The Architect of the Threshold Protocol"

AffiliationClassified
SpecializationAnomalous Phenomena Research
StatusActive — Field Clearance Level IV

Raised in England after fleeing Germany as a child, Halloway holds multiple degrees across a variety of engineering disciplines. Those who have interviewed her note an approachable demeanour, a twisted sense of humour, and a tendency to speak at length about her partner, her cats, and any inconvenience she faces in daily life. Several interview transcripts remark on her persistent chattiness and a disregard for other's time.

Her ongoing experiments with Omniflux — although dangerous — are producing measurable results that justify continued authorization despite the inherent risks. Halloway and Gregory Stahl spearheaded the Allied scientific counter-operation against the Axis following the forced extraction of Dr. Roach's research. By smuggling equipment to the Soviets, they successfully halted the Axis advance.

"She will talk your ear off about her cats and then solve a problem that would take anyone else a decade. The two facts are not unrelated." — Internal assessment, 1941

Gregor Stahl

"The Iron Hand"

AffiliationAllied Counter-Operation / Independent
SpecializationIndustrial Manufacturing & Logistics
StatusActive

Dubbed by the press as the "Man of Steel," Stahl was born in the Ural Mountains and gained control of his first factory before adulthood. State seizure of his assets and the arrest of his family forced him west, where he rebuilt with remarkable speed and efficiency.

Under his leadership, the name Stahl has become synonymous worldwide with quality, durability, and an unusually flexible interpretation of environmental law. He shows little patience for bureaucratic restriction and openly opposes Dr. Roach's apocalyptic ambitions.

"After all, who can he sell to once the world is destroyed?" — Attributed to Stahl, date unknown

Alongside Dr. Halloway, Stahl played a central role in the Allied scientific counter-operation, leveraging his industrial network to funnel equipment past enemy lines.

Verena Callas

Intelligence Liaison — Affiliation Classified

Verena Callas

Real Name: Eva Averanda — "The Widow of Seventeen"

AffiliationClassified
SpecializationInter-faction Negotiation
StatusActive

Known publicly by her stage name "Verena Callas," her true identity is Eva Averanda. She leverages fame, charm, and social access to influence society at the highest levels. Following the mysterious death of her seventeenth husband, she emerged inexplicably wealthy, acquiring ownership of multiple theaters and newspaper presses across three continents.

Her effectiveness lies in the ruthless manipulation of media — allowing her to destroy reputations and careers without direct involvement. Despite extensive intelligence efforts, her personal history remains fragmented, contradictory, or entirely absent.

"We have seventeen death certificates, fourteen birth records, and eleven passports. None of them agree on a single detail." — Field report, Allied Intelligence Division, 1943

An agent was dispatched to track her down in order to gain intelligence on Dr. Roach's South American operation. The two met in a city filled with secrets. Callas attempted to kill the agent.

Agent Valentine

Field Agent — Designation Classified

Agent Valentine

"Agent V"

AffiliationIntelligence Services — Freelance (Prior)
SpecializationInfiltration & Civilian Assimilation
StatusActive — Memory Status: Partial

Designation: Agent Valentine. Recovered following a vehicle collision resulting in near-total memory loss. Subsequent evaluation revealed advanced linguistic ability, adaptive behavior, and an exceptional capacity to assimilate into civilian populations without detection.

Recruited by intelligence services after operating independently beyond formal systems. The pursuit of an individual known as Dr. Roach predates official assignment — suggesting Valentine had a prior connection to the Omniflux affair that has never been formally explained.

Dr. Roach

Chief Artificer — Walker Program

Dr. Roach

"Father of the Chassis"

AffiliationNone — Operates Outside All Known Structures
SpecializationQuantum Semiconductors & Timeline Engineering
StatusActive — Location: South America (Unconfirmed)

Before the Great War, Dr. Roach discovered a rare natural transistor material — an extraordinary semiconductor with unique quantum properties. It existed simultaneously as both a 1 and a 0, deciding its true state only when observed. This uncertainty gave it unprecedented semi-conductive behavior, enabling it to interact with reality in ways no known physics could predict.

When Roach harnessed this material, his experiments fractured his existence across multiple timelines and realities — splintering him into alternate versions of himself trapped in parallel worlds. The fracture unleashed chaos, warping time and space. It is the birth of every mysterious technology and phenomenon players will encounter.

After fracturing across multiple realities, Roach was eventually captured in 2045 by a researcher who had learned to study and stabilize the material's effects, effectively imprisoning him in that timeline. He broke free. Landing in 1934 with only a single piece of that rare semiconductor on his person — and the knowledge of a century of future technology — he plans to stay and reshape history on his own terms.

"In 1934, German intelligence discovered a rogue scientist in the Iraqi desert. What they extracted from him did not belong to this century." — The Eldritch Nexus, recovered transmission

After the war, Roach fled to South America, where he began developing an interdimensional doorway: the Eldritch Nexus. The project is powered by Omniflux — an extremely volatile and unstable element that most governments remain entirely unaware of.

Solomon Grey

Key Figure — Designation Unknown

Solomon Grey

"The most powerful man no one can name"

Often described as the most powerful man no one can name, Grey shows little loyalty to ideology or nation. Publicly, Solomon Grey is unremarkable — his name absent from speeches and headlines alike. Privately, he is understood to be the orchestrator of diplomatic affairs in Europe and across the globe.

Empires fall, ideologies collapse, and leaders are replaced, but systems endure if designed correctly. His efforts are not devoted to ruling the world, but to ensuring he has a hand in shaping the future of whatever comes next.

"The fate of millions lies behind the pen and paper he wields." — Source unknown

It was Grey who received Dr. Roach after German intelligence discovered the rogue scientist in the Iraqi desert in 1934. His illicit research was forcibly extracted under Grey's oversight — triggering a rapid and catastrophic shift in European history.

Phenomena — Classified Material

Omniflux & The Eldritch Nexus

Omniflux is the common designation for the rare natural semiconductor material first isolated by Dr. Roach prior to the Great War. Its quantum properties are without precedent: the material exists simultaneously in two binary states, resolving to a definite value only at the moment of observation. This observer-dependent behavior allows it to interact with computational and physical systems in ways that conventional physics cannot model.

Roach's early experiments with Omniflux produced the first primitive artificial intelligence constructs — systems capable of adapting to input in ways their designers did not anticipate. They also fractured Roach's own existence across multiple timelines, scattering alternate versions of him across parallel realities.

"It does not compute. It negotiates." — Dr. Roach, recovered field notes, undated

After the war, Roach fled to South America and began construction of the Eldritch Nexus — an interdimensional doorway powered by Omniflux. The project remains unknown to most governments. Those who are aware of it do not agree on whether it should be destroyed, captured, or used.

History — Pre-War Period

Origins of the Occult War

The conventional history of the Second World War is accurate as far as it goes. What it omits is the parallel conflict — older, stranger, and in some estimations, more consequential — that began decades earlier and used the visible war as its theatre.

The earliest documented occult incident associated with the coming conflict dates to 1933. A research station in the Bavarian Alps, operating under ambiguous government sponsorship, recorded a contact event that killed four personnel and left two others permanently altered in ways that medical science could not categorize.

The station's files were classified by five different government agencies across three countries. All five copies were later destroyed. What survives are the personal notes of a surviving researcher, hidden inside the binding of an unremarkable agricultural almanac, discovered in a Munich estate sale in 1987.

The Project

Occult Facilities is an original universe exploring the secret, esoteric underbelly of the Second World War. It weaves together original lore — secret societies, anomalous phenomena, and clandestine agencies — into a sprawling alternate history of grand strategy and hidden power.

The Afterburn expansion is currently in development, bringing new content, deeper mechanics, and expanded lore to the world of Occult Facilities.

Find the Mod

Occult Facilities is an original work of fiction. All names, characters, factions, and events are the creation of their author.

What follows is a reconstruction of events beginning in 1934. Most records have been destroyed. What remains is this.

The Iraqi Desert, 1934
Iraq — 1934

Chapter I

The Capture

In the summer of 1934, German intelligence operatives tracked a rogue scientist to the Iraqi desert. Dr. Roach — a man who had arrived in this era carrying knowledge no person of this century should possess — was found alone, with nothing but a single fragment of a material no laboratory could identify.

He was transported west. He did not resist. Those present reported that he seemed, above all else, unsurprised.

Chapter II

The Handler

Dr. Roach was handed to Solomon Grey — a man whose name appears in no official record, yet whose signature underwrites the fate of nations. Grey's interest was not ideological. It was architectural. He wanted to understand what Roach had built, and what it implied for whoever controlled it first.

The interrogation that followed lasted eleven days. What was extracted in those eleven days triggered a cascade that would reshape Europe within the decade.

"He didn't give us the future. He gave us enough of it to ruin ourselves with."
The Interrogation
The Extraction

Chapter III

Dark Science Extracted

Across a green-walled room, under a single hanging bulb, Roach's illicit research was systematically drawn out. The blueprints on the table between them were not mechanical schematics — they were something older. Something that didn't belong to this century's vocabulary of science.

Roach cooperated selectively. What he withheld, they never noticed was missing — until it was too late.

Europe in Flames
Europe — 1939–1943

Chapter IV

The Cascade

The knowledge extracted from Roach did not stay in one pair of hands for long. Within five years, it had proliferated — imperfectly, dangerously — across multiple Axis research programs. The result was not mastery of the technology. It was escalation without understanding.

Europe burned. And somewhere in the chaos, the Axis advance accelerated in ways conventional military analysis could not explain.

Halloway and Stahl
Allied Counter-Operation

Chapter V

The Counter-Move

Dr. Alina Halloway and Gregor Stahl spearheaded the Allied scientific response. Working from partial intelligence and Halloway's own Omniflux research, they reverse-engineered enough of the leaked dark science to produce a counter. By smuggling equipment through Stahl's industrial network to Soviet research stations, they halted the Axis advance.

The droids in these blueprints were the first of their kind — primitive by Roach's standards, but unprecedented by any other measure.

Chapter VI

The Man Who Knew Too Much

Through it all, Roach watched. His yellow eyes — a side effect, some theorized, of prolonged exposure to Omniflux — tracked the war's progress with the detachment of a man reading a history he has already lived through.

He had not given Grey everything. He had given him just enough. The fracture of his timeline had taught him one lesson above all others: whoever controls Omniflux controls what comes next.

And he had no intention of relinquishing that control to anyone.

Escape at the Docks
Post-War — Port Unknown

Chapter VII

The Escape

After the war, Roach disappeared. Intelligence services across three nations filed competing reports of his last known location — none of them agreed. What is confirmed: he was seen running the foggy docks of a northern port, uniformed pursuers behind him, a cargo vessel departing at his back.

He made it aboard. Where the ship was headed, no official record states.

Havana
South America — Post-War

Chapter VIII

The City of Secrets

Roach surfaced in South America — in a city of warm evenings, vintage cars, and a society that asked very few questions of men with money and expertise. He established himself quietly. He acquired property. He built.

It was also here that an agent was dispatched to find Verena Callas, whose intelligence network had begun tracking Roach's movements. The two met in this city. Callas attempted to kill the agent. The meeting was, by any measure, memorable.

The Eldritch Nexus Laboratory
The Nexus — Location Classified

Chapter IX

The Nexus

Beneath the city, Roach had built something that no wartime blueprint had ever described. The Eldritch Nexus: an interdimensional doorway powered entirely by Omniflux, designed to punch through the membrane between realities. Occult symbols lined the stone walls — not decoration, but calculation.

The portal glowed green. It had already opened once in a test activation. What came through during that test has not been officially acknowledged.

"It does not connect two places. It connects two conditions of existence." — Roach, recovered notes
Omniflux
Omniflux — Containment Unit Alpha

Chapter X

Omniflux

The material that powers the Nexus. The material that fractured Roach across realities. The material that, if properly weaponized, could rewrite the outcome of any conflict — or end the concept of conflict by ending the concept of a singular timeline.

It pulses blue-green in its containment cylinder. Lightning arcs across the glass. It exists simultaneously in two states. It waits to be observed. And when it is observed — it decides.

Most governments do not know it exists. Those who do cannot agree on what to do about it.

Agent Valentine Briefed
Classified Facility — Present Day

Chapter XI

The Mission

In a darkened briefing room, under a single overhead light, an agent leans over a dossier. The assignment: locate the Nexus. Assess the threat. The name on the file is Dr. Roach's. The agent reading it is Agent Valentine — a person whose own file contains more redactions than text, and who was pursuing Roach before anyone gave them official permission to do so.

What happens next is what the players of Occult Facilities: Afterburn will determine.
